Altar Servers

Altar Servers function as an integral aspect of the prayer life of the parish.  The primary responsibility of an Altar Server is to help lead the people in prayer. Altar Servers also assist the priest at Mass by such liturgical actions as carrying the cross, candles, and incense in procession, holding the book for the priest’s prayers, assisting with moving things to and from the altar, and serving as role models for participation in the Mass.

Altar Server meetings are regularly scheduled and occur monthly.  These training sessions allow servers to learn about the spaces within the church, the items used at Mass, vessels, and vestments, gestures and movement, prayers to know, and the liturgical seasons.  This ministry is open to children and youths who have received first Holy Communion.
